Call for Abstracts and Posters 2023
Deadline: Thursday 31st August 2023
The Future of Prosthetics and Orthotics Conference 2023 invites you to submit your abstract or poster presentation. The conference will be held at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, on the 30th of November and 1st of December 2023.
The conference will be a showcase event themed around the exciting future of Prosthetics and Orthotics. Highlighting research undertaken by undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and early career researchers in the field, key themes will be addressed in four plenary sessions. These are; User Outcomes in P&O, Biomechanics in P&O, Novel Design and Control, P&O in Low Resource Settings. Headlining each session will be an expert in the field, who in addition to giving a presentation, will participate in a discussion panel involving the presenters and audience at the end of each session.
The conference will not only showcase undergraduate, postgraduate and early career research, but also focus on career opportunities in the field of prosthetics, orthotics, and more broadly assistive and medical technology. There will be a careers session each lunchtime where industrial partners will share their perspective on the future of prosthetics and orthotics and give advice on pursuing a career, outside of academia, in the field. Industrial partners of the conference will also have a stand in the foyer/poster presentation area where there will be the opportunity to engage with current employees.
The conference is being hosted by the students of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Prosthetics and Orthotics (CDT in P&O) which is a collaboration between the Universities of Salford, Southampton, Strathclyde and Imperial College London. With backgrounds varying from clinicians to biochemists, mechanical engineers and sports scientists, we are eager to bring you a conference that will explore the many and varied aspects of Prosthetics and Orthotics provision.
If you have research that fits into one of the four themes, we encourage you to submit an abstract or poster. While the focus is giving undergraduate, postgraduate, and early career researchers a platform to present their work, we welcome and will consider submissions from all groups.
Presentation
The top submissions for each session will be contacted to participate in a presentation panel of their work during the conference. Other successful submissions will be invited for a poster presentation. A (non-monetary) prize will be decided and awarded by the P&O conference committee for the most outstanding or impactful poster or presentation.
